Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland, Finland's northernmost province. The city lies just a few kilometers south of the Arctic circle.
Tourism is the most important economic factor, as Northern Lights and Midnight Sun attract many visitors. The nice landscape around the city is snow-covered for approximately six months of the year.
Rovaniemi is also famous to be the hometown of Santa Claus.
In 2005 the city hosted the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships.
About the hill:
The Ounasvaara jumping hills are located approximately 4 kilometres east of the city centre. The whole venue consists of six jumps from K6 to K90. All hills are covered with plastic mats and can be used year-round.
Since 2009 the opening competition of the Ladies Continental Cup is always held on the HS 100.
