Katharina Althaus won Sunday’s World Cup competition on the Hochfirstschanze (HS142) in Titisee-Neustadt. The athlete from Germany jumped 130 m and 137.5 m and became the new leader of the overall standings. The second place was taken by Silje Opseth, and the third by Ursa Bogataj.
The longest jump of the first round was the work of Katharina Althaus. The two-time Olympic silver medalist landed on 130 meters and at the halfway point of the competition she was leading by 1.4 points over Ursa Bogataj (129 m) and 1.9 points over Silje Opseth (129 m). Just behind the top three were Eva Pinkelnig (129 m), Abigail Strate (127.5 m) and Selina Freitag (125 m).
In the final, Katharina Althaus showed the longest jump again. 137 meters allowed the hosts’ athlete to triumph with an advantage of 8.4 points over Silje Opseth (134 m). The lowest step of the podium was taken by Ursa Bogataj (133 m), followed by Abigail Strate (135 m), fifth Selina Freitag (129.5 m) and sixth Nika Kriznar (132 m).
Thanks to the victory in Titisee-Neustadt, Katharina Althaus (340 points) became the new leader of the World Cup. The German is ahead of Eva Pinkelnig (336 points). The third place goes to Silje Opseth (327 points).
The next World Cup event will be held after Christmas, on 28-29 December in Villach (HS98). These will be the first competitions counted to the Silvester Tournament.
