Eva Pinkelnig is the winner of the second edition of the Silvester Tournament! The Austrian sealed her success with a victory in the final competition at Logarska Dolina hill (HS94) in Ljubno, with jumps of 93.5 m and 89.5 m. The second place was taken by Anna Odine Stroem, and the third by Selina Freitag. The Olympic champion from Beijing, Ursa Bogataj, had a dangerous-looking fall.
Eva Pinkelnig was in the lead after the first round of the New Year’s competition, in which she soared to a distance of 93.5 meters. The Austrian was 0.9 points ahead of second Anna Odine Stroem (91.5 m). Lara Malsiner (87 m) was third, followed by Alexandria Loutitt (89 m), Selina Freitag (88.5 m) and Nika Kriznar (92.5 m).
Ursa Bogataj (89.5 m) had a dangerous-looking fall. The Olympic champion from Beijing, who won the KO duel anyway, left the landing hill in Ljubno on a stretcher, assisted by medical care, and did not appear at the start of the final round. According to preliminary information from the coaching staff, Bogataj suffered a left knee injury. The athlete is currently in the hospital for further tests.
In the final round, Eva Pinkelnig sealed her third victory in the Silvester Tournament competition. The Austrian with the result of 89.5 meters defeated the second Anna Odine Stroem (88 m) by three points. The third position was finished by Selina Freitag (88.5 m), who stood on the podium of the World Cup for the first time in her career. Right behind the top three were Alexandria Loutitt (89 m), Nika Kriznar (87.5 m) and Lara Malsiner (84 m).
The winner of the second edition of the Silvester Tournament and the holder of the Golden Owl is Eva Pinkelnig (1030.3 points). The Austrian athlete won three out of four competitions and was 26.3 points ahead of Anna Odine Stroem (1004.0 points). Third place went to Nice Kriznar (980.3 points).
In the overall World Cup standings, Eva Pinkelnig (716 points) is ahead of Katharina Althaus (527 points) and Anna Odine Stroe (491 points).
Now the World Cup goes to Japan. The competitions in Sapporo (January 7-8) and Zao (January 13-15) are scheduled for the next two weekends.
