WC in Zao: Loutitt with first victory for Canada

Alexandria Loutitt became the first Canadian to win the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup competition. The 19-year-old from Calgary triumphed in Friday’s event in Zao (HS102) with jumps of 98.5 m and 95 m. Second place went to Eva Pinkelnig and third to Chiara Kreuzer.

In the first competition round, Alexandria Loutitt created the advantage on her rivals. The athlete from Canada achieved a distance of 98.5 meters and at the halfway point of the competition she was leading by 9.6 points over Eva Pinkelnig (93.5 m) and 11.7 points over Selina Freitag (95 m). Sara Takanashi (95 m) was fourth, Nika Kriznar (93.5 m) was fifth, and Yuki Ito (91 m) was sixth.

In the final, Alexandria Loutitt landed on 95 meters and she sealed the first victory in the Women’s FIS World Cup competition in the history of the Canadian national team. Second Eva Pinkelnig (94.5 m) lost 8.5 points to the winner. The lowest step of the podium was taken by Chiara Kreuzer (92.5 m), ahead of Selina Freitag (97 m) and Nika Kriznar (96 m).

In the World Cup overall standings, Eva Pinkelnig (916 points) is leading ahead of Katharina Althaus (717 points) and Anna Odine Stroe (587 points).

On Saturday in Zao, a premiere competition of super team with the participation of 12 national teams is planned. The competition will start at 9:00 CET.
