WC in Willingen: Norway’s the best mixed team

03.02.2023 - WC Willingen podium

Team Norway won the one round only Friday’s World Cup mixed team competition at Muehlenkopfschanze (HS147) in Willingen. Austria was second and Germany third. The main event of the competition was the jump of Timi Zajc. The Slovene didn’t land the record attempt at a distance of 161.5 meters.

The first round, which lasted almost an hour and a half, turned out to be the only round of Friday’s mixed team competition in Willingen. From the beginning, the competition took place in changeable and difficult wind conditions. For this reason, the competition was interrupted many times.

The winners of the competition were the Norwegians. Anna Odine Stroem, Marius Lindvik, Silje Opseth and Halvor Egner Granerud triumphed with an advantage of 35.5 points over the second Austrians. The third place was taken by Germany.

Japan finished in fourth place. Slovenia was fifth, the United States sixth, Italy seventh and Romania eighth.

In these extremely lottery wind conditions, we witnessed two over 150-meter flights. Japan’s Yuki Ito supported the landing on a distance of 154.5 meters with her back. However, everyone was overshadowed by Timi Zajc, who was started in too favorable wind conditions. The Slovene glided to the 170 meter line, but in the final phase he managed to brake in the air and fell to a distance of 161.5 meters. Initially, the 22-year-old grabbed his knee, but eventually left the Muhlenkopfschanze landing zone on his own.

On Saturday and Sunday athletes will participate in individual competitions in Willingen.
