Katharina Althaus won Saturday’s FIS World Cup individual competition at the Muhlenkopfschanze (HS147) in Willingen. The German athlete triumphed with jumps of 133 m and 149.5 m. Ema Klinec from Slovenia took second place. The third was the Japanese Sara Takanashi, who stood on the podium of this series for the 114th time in her career.
After the first round, Ema Klinec was in the lead. The Slovenian soared to a distance of 137.5 meters and at the halfway point she was 2.3 points ahead of Sara Takanashi (139 m). Third was Katharina Althaus (133 m) just ahead of Nozomi Maruyama (136 m), Selina Freitag (132.5 m) and Yuki Ito (131 m).
In the final, Katharina Althaus successfully attacked. The favorite of the hosts made the longest jump of the entire competition, landing on 149.5 meters. In addition, the German received 19 points for style from all judges and triumphed in Willingen with an advantage of 8.1 points over the leader at the halfway point, Ema Klinec (146.5 m). The third place was completed by Sara Takanashi (141.5 m), who stood on the podium of the World Cup competition for the 114th time in her career.
Eva Pinkelnig (1,122 points) leads the FIS World Cup overall standings, ahead of Katharina Althaus (971 points) and Anna Odine Stroem (797 points).
The second women’s individual competition in Willingen is scheduled for Sunday.
