Katharina Althaus is the world champion on the normal hill! The German won the competition at Srednja Skakalnica (HS102) in Planica after jumps of 98.5 m and 97 m. The silver medal was won by Eva Pinkelnig, and the bronze medal went to Anna Odine Stroem.
In the first round, Anna Odine Stroem landed on 100 meters and the Norwegian was leading at the halfway point of the competition with an advantage of 4.7 points over the second Katharina Althaus (98.5 m). The third place was taken by Eva Pinkelnig (96.5 m), followed by Selina Freitag (97 m), Thea Minyan Bjoerseth (95 m) and Yuki Ito (92.5 m).
In the final, Anna Odine Stroem failed to defend her first place. The Norwegian landed at 95 meters and received lower score points for style, which dropped her to third place and gave her the bronze medal. The world champion was Katharina Althaus (97 m), 2.2 points ahead of silver medalist Eva Pinkelnig (100 m). The leader at the halfway point, Stroem lost 3.1 points to the winner.
On Saturday athletes will take part in a team competition on the normal hill.
