WC in Lillehammer: Opseth wins a competition, Pinkelnig with a Crystal Globe

Silje Opseth took home victory in Monday’s snowstorm Raw Air individual competition at Lysgaardsbakken (HS140) in Lillehammer. The Norwegian triumphed after jumps of 116.5 m and 131 m. The second was Selina Freitag, and the third Ema Klinec, who strengthened her lead in the tournament. Eva Pinkelnig secured the Crystal Globe for winning the World Cup overall standings.

After the first round, Eirin Maria Kvandal was in the lead. The Norwegian landed at 124 meters and was ahead of Ema Klinec (120 m) and Selina Freitag (121.5 m). Abigail Strate (117 m) was fourth, Nika Kriznar (122 m) was fifth, and Anna Odine Stroem (118.5 m) was sixth.

In the final, Silje Opseth made an attack from seventh place to the top step of the podium. The Norwegian soared to 131 meters and thus triumphed with an advantage of 0.6 points over Selina Freitag (128 m) and 6.5 points. over Ema Klinec (122 m). Just behind the podium were Yuki Ito (126 m), Katharina Althaus (128 m) and Nika Kriznar (124 m). The leader after first round, Eirin Maria Kvandal from the shortened inrun reached 119.5 meters, thus not receiving a points bonus, dropped her to seventh place

The leader of the Raw Air overall standings, Ema Klinec (1072.7 points) increased her advantage over her most dangerous rivals. The second Anna Odine Stroem loses to the Slovenian 33.6 points, and the third Katharina Althaus – 37.6 points.

Eva Pinkelnig secured her first Crystal Globe (1552 points). For the two competitions until the end of the World Cup season, the Austrian is 215 points ahead of Katharina Althaus (1,337 points). The third is Ema Klinec (1215 points), and the fourth is Anna Odine Stroem (1172 points).

The next competition in Lillehammer will take place on Wednesday.
