Birun Shao won the first Saturday’s Summer Continental Cup competition at the Puijo hill (HS100) in Kuopio. The athlete from China triumphed with jumps of 91 and 95 meters. Julia Muehlbacher was second and Mariia Iakovleva finished third.
After the first round, Mariia Iakovleva was in the lead. The Russian reached 98 meters and overtook Austrian Julia Muehlbacher (94 m) by 6.9 points and Chinese Birun Shao (91 m) by 0.4 points. The fourth was Hannah Wiegele (86.5 m), the fifth was Ping Zeng (87.5 m), and the sixth was Kurumi Ichinohe (90 m).
In the final, Birun Shao jumped to success. The nearly 18-year-old Chinese scored 95 meters and triumphed in the competition with an advantage of 8.6 points over Julia Muehlbacher (84.5 m). The leader after the first round, Mariia Iakovleva (82.5 m) was finally third, ahead of Xueyao Li (95 m), Hannah Wiegele (84 m) and Anastasiia Subbotina (85 m).
Thanks to the victory, Birun Shao (100 points) became the first leader of FIS Summer Continental Cup 2021. Julia Muehlbacher is second (80 points) and Maria Yakovleva is third (60 points).
The second Saturday’s competition in Kuopio will start at 10:20 (CET).
