Gold for Canada! Alexandria Loutitt (134.5 m and 133.5 m) received the world champion title at the large hill (HS138) in Planica. The defending champion, Maren Lundby, took the silver and Katharina Althaus got the bronze medal.
After the first round, two athletes were in the lead – Maren Lundby, who supported the landing with her right hand for a distance of 139.5 meters, and Alexandria Loutitt with a result of 134.5 meters. The Norwegian and the Canadian had 4.9 points ahead of the multimedalist of the World Championships in Planica, Katharina Althaus (120.5 m). Fourth was Nozomi Maruyama (129 m), fifth Anna Odine Stroem (121 m) and sixth Eva Pinkelnig (121 m).
Alexandria Loutitt did the longest jump in the final. The junior world champion reached 136.5 meters and won Canada’s first gold medal at the senior ski jumping championships! The athlete from the Maple Leaf country triumphed at Bloudkova Velikanka with an advantage of 9.6 points over the defending champion, Maren Lundby (133 m). The lowest step of the podium was taken by Katharina Althaus (128 m), who will leave Slovenia with four medals.
For women, this is the end of the rivalry at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Now the athletes will participate in Raw Air on the Norwegian hills in Oslo (March 10-12), Lillehammer (March 13-15) and – for the first time in history and only for the top fifteen of the overall standings of the tournament – on the flying hill in Vikersund (March 19).
