The Continental Cup continues in Lillehammer. Lindsey Van and Daniela Iraschko will enter the competitions there, as well as the Finish team.
The Summer Continental Cup continues this weekend in Lillehammer. Two competitions will be held on the HS100 there on Saturday and Sunday. A men’s CoC will also be held at the same time on the large hill there.
The 2009 World Champion, Lindsey Van (USA), will give her comeback to the Continental Cup at these competitions. She took a break of skijumping in the last season. At the beginning of August she was able to win both titles, normal and large hill, at the U.S. National Championships.
Also Austria’s Daniela Iraschko will join the Continental Cup. In the last years Iraschko always skipped the summer competitions. This time she decided to participate in the CoCs in Norway, as her home training hill in Stams is being reconstructed at the moment. Stams cannot be used before October. “That would be too late to start with training. I have to drive a long way, if I can’t jump there. I started training early in September an did now about 30 jumps. I like the hills in Norway and I have the opportunity to do training in Oslo,” she said to Ladies-Skijumping.com.
The Finish team also enters the Continental Cup in Lillehammer. Their only competitor, Julia Kykkänen, has regained a proper form. During the last competitions in Germany, she still had a training deficit due to an injury.
Unfortunately the current overall leader in the Summer Continental Cup, America’s Sarah Hendrickson, is unable to compete in Norway, as she has to attend school.
Hill in Oslo opened by Maren Lundby
After Lillehammer, the Continental Cup will continue in Oslo. The new hill there, Midstubakken, was opened this week, just in time for the CoC. It will be venue for the World Championships 2011. The first jump on the new hill was made by Maren Lundby. She jumped 87 meters on the K95. Thus it was again a female jumper who did the opening jump on a new hill in Norway. In March Annette Sagen inaugurated the new Holmenkollen, in 2008 Mari Backe opened the reconstructed HS105 in Vikersund.
