Sarah Hendrickson wins in Liberec ahead of Daniela Iraschko and Sara Takanashi.
The weather conditions in Liberec were much better today then yesterday, when wind and snowfall interfered the official training. Already in the additional training round, that was held in the morning, and in the trial round a lot of far jumps were possible. Also during the competition the weather conditions were fine and so a nice jumping was possible.
America’s Sarah Hendrickson won the competition with a pair of jumps on 100.5 and 103.5 meters. After jumping only 92.5 meters in the first round, a 104.0 meter jump in the second was not sufficient for Austria’s Daniela Iraschko to attack Hendrickson, and so she came second. Japan’s Sara Takanashi took the third place with jumps on 88.0 and 98.5 meters.
Also the fourth rank was taken by a Japanese. Yurina Yamada jumped 87.5 and 89.5 meters. With Atsuko Tanaka on rank eight and Yuki Ito on rank nine two more Japanese jumpers made it to the top ten. These four girls will also form the Japanese team at the upcoming World Junior Championships in Erzurum. Today’s result shows that we can expect them to play an important role there. Germany’s Ulrike Grässler eventually came fifth. After jumping 82.5 meters in the first round she was only 12th at half-time, but then improved to this position with a strong 95.5 meter jump. Slovenia’s Maja Vtic came sixth with jumps on 87.0 and 88.5 meters.
For three of the five jumpers that made their international debut in this competition, it was a really successful day, as they were able to gain their first CoC-points. Maria Hurtado Beisvaag, a young Norwegian with Colombian roots, finished on the 18th place (74.0 and 74.5 m), China’s Liu Qui took the 20th rank (73.0 and 75.0 m) and Karolina Indrackova (CZE) took the 27th place (72.5 and 61.0 m).
In the overall Continental Cup Iraschko has now 440 points. Second ranked Hendrickson has 420. If Hendrickson wins also tomorrow’s CoC-final and Iraschko comes second again, both will end this season with 520 points.
