Sara Takanashi performed best in the official training for the season final in Planica. Horrible crash of Manuela Malsiner!
The best 30 jumpers of this season’s World Cup meet this weekend in Planica for a final competition on the large hill. There were quite difficult wind conditions there today, so only one official training round was held. A second round was cancelled after only six jumpers.
Clearly the best jumper in this training was once more Sara Takanashi (JPN) with a jump of 126.5 meters. Slovenia’s Maja Vtic jumped 124.0 meters and so took the second rank. A jump of 118.5 meters by Russia’s Irina Avvakumova was the third best in this training. Austria’s Chiara Hoelzl made a far jump of 124.5 meters, but due to the wind and gate compensation rule it was only enough to take the seventh rank.
Before the second training jump was cancelled, Italy’s Manuela Malsiner fell severely. She lost control of her jump in the air and crashed onto the hill. Right after crashing she lay in the outrun, unable to move. When the medics took care of her, she was conscious and able to speak, but obviously her shoulder is dislocated and she cannot move her neck. She was taken to hospital by helicopter for further examinations.
The training was paused after this fall, but as the wind got stronger it was eventually cancelled.
