Sara Takanashi won the first of two Grand Prix competition in Almaty ahead of Irina Avvakumova and Yuki Ito.
The first of the only two Grand Prix competitions of this summer was held today in Almaty, Khazakstan. After yesterday’s official training it was no big surprise, that Japan’s Sara Talamashi won the competition hands down. With jumps of 101.0 and 98.5 meters on the K95/HS106 hill, she outperformed the rest of the field and scored over 30 points more as second ranked Irina Avvakumova from Russia. The fact that Takanashi jumped with a shortened inrun in both rounds just underlines her strength.
Also Avvakumova jumped very consitent. For her second place she made a pair of jumps of 95.5 and 94.0 meters. With Yuki Ito another Japanese took the third place, she jumped 95.9 and 92.5 meters.
Eva Logar from Slovenia jumped 93.0 meters twice and so came fourth. After the first round she was still seventh. Germany’s Kathrina Althaus took the fifth place with jumps of 93.5 and 89.5 meters. Bad luck had Slovenia’s Maja Vtic. She made the longest jump of the day in the first round. Her 101.5 meters were enough for the second rank at half-time. And also her second jump went past the one hundred, on 101.0 meters exactly. Unluckily she was not able to stand the jump and so lost a lot of style points. Eventually she took the sixth place.
