Anette Sagen and Jenna Mohr win the CoC finals in Sapporo. Sagen secures the victory in the overall Continental Cup 2008/09.

Due to bad weather condition the competition planed for Friday had to be rescheduled to Saturday. Also the competitions on Saturday in Sapporo were held under difficult weather conditions, with snow and changing winds.

The first competition on that day was won by Anette Sagen (NOR), ahead of Ulrike Grässler (GER) and Daniela Iraschko (AUT). Sagen was on the second place after the first round. In the second round she set the competition’s longest jump to 101,5 m. Although she was not able to land it properly and only got low judges points for it, it was enough for her to win, as Iraschko, first after the first round, only jumped 85.0 m in the second. For Grässler 99.5 m in the second round were enough to gain the second place. Fourth became Jacqueline Seifriedsberger (AUT) ahead of Lindsey Van (USA) and Rieko Kanai (JPN).

With that victory it was already certain that Sagen is the winner of the overall Continental Cup. It is already the fifth time 24 year old Norwegian wins the whole series. Only in the last summer, when there was a separate Summer Continental Cup held for the first time, Sagen was only on the fourth place. After that competition both Grässler and Iraschko still were fighting for the second rank.

The second competition, which was the substitute for Friday’s cancelled event, was won by Jenna Mohr (GER). It was the second victory in a Continental Cup’s competition in Mohrs career after she won in Bischofsgrün in August 2007. After the first round Grässler and Iraschko were sharing the first rank. In the second round Grässler was able to beat Iraschko gain the second place. Iraschko placed on the third rank. This was enough for her to keep the second place in the overall standings, five points ahead of Grässler.
