Mattel wins also on Sunday in Braunlage

Coline Mattel won also the second competition in Braunlage. Daniela Iraschko and Melanie Faisst came second and third.

It was a tough fight between France’s Coline Mattel (86.5 and 94.5 m) and Austria’s Daniela Iraschko (87.5 and 93.5 m) in today’s competition. Wind was low most of the time, and some fog did not interfere the competition. Again a vast number of spectators had made it to the hill.

After the first round Iraschko was still leading by 1.5 points, but in the second round Mattel caught her up and so won the competition. “I am not so good in handling stress. Last week in Schonach I got nervous, when I had the chance to win and had a bad second jump then. But today I managed to stay relaxed and jumped very well in the second round,” Mattel said to Ladies-Skijumping.com.

Third came Germany’s Melanie Faisst (87.0 and 85.5 m). Despite her good result, the hill in Braunlage is not one of her favourites. “The hill is quite difficult to jump, already a tiny mistake has consequences here. You need some luck with the wind on this hill,” she said to Ladies-Skijumping.com.

Juliane Seyfarth (GER) took the fourth rank (83.5 and 85.0 m). Slovenia’s Eva Logar came fifth (85.5 and 85.0 m). Equal on points on the sixth rank were Lindsey Van (81.0 and 86.0 m) and Jacqueline Seifriedsberger (82.0 and 85.0 m).

With her win today, Mattel has won the 12th Ladies Winter Tour. She scored 1100.3 points in Schonach, Hinterzarten and Braunlage. Runner-up Iraschko made 1076.6 points in this tournament, Jessica Jerome came third (961.4 points). Iraschko was leading the tour after the competitions in Schonach and Hinterzarten, but was caught up by Mattel yesterday. Nevertheless her second place did not disappoint her too much. “The Tour is not so important in this season for me. My goals are the World Championships and the overall Contintental Cup. But now I am happy, that I can relax a few days at home,” she said to Ladies-Skijumping.com. “The whole tour was very sad, with this terrible loss the Italians had. I am still thinking about Simona. This made it hard to jump for all of us,” Mattel said about the Tour.

Iraschko is still leading in the overall Continental Cup. She has now exactly 1000 points in this series. Mattel is second (740 points), Jerome third (598 points).

The Continental Cup continues on the next weekend in Ljubno.
