Japan earthquake: Ski jumpers are save

Archives

All ski jumpers that attended the Continental Cups in Zao (Yamagata) were not harmed by the earthquake in Japan.

The heavy earthquake that hit Japan today caused great anxiety also in the ski jumping family. Zao – where the final competitions of this winter’s Ladies Continental Cup were held on the last two days – is less then 100 km away from the disaster-struck city Sendai. Luckily no competitors of the Zao CoCs were harmed by the quake.

The European teams had left Tokio airport already a few hours before the earthquake. They all arrived savely in Vienna in the afternoon. Big luck had also some Japanese jumpers that went to their homes via Sendai airport. Thankfully their flights had already been departed, when the airport was hit by the tsunami. Others of the Japanese team went to their homes in the cities Akita, Iwate and Niigata, that are located in the disaster zone. Also they are doing well, but were brought to save places.
