Ema Klinec won both OPA Alpen Cups in Ziri this weekend. Barbara Klinec and Chiara Hölzl second and third.
While the main focus of attention was for sure on the World Cup in Hinterzarten, there was also another international Ladies competition this weekend. A OPA Alpen Cup was held on the K60 in Ziri, Slovenia. A handful of athletes, that were still jumping in the World Cup in Schonach last week, attended the competitions there, so the sporting level of the starting field was in general very high. Nevertheless both competitions were won by local “heroine” Ema Klinec, who is at the age of 14 still too young to compete in World Cups.
On Saturday Ema Klinec won with a pair of jumps of 59.5 and 61.0 meters ahead of her elder sister Barbara Klinec (60.0 and 59.5 m). Third behind the sisters came Austria’s Chiara Hölzl with jumps on 56.5 and 58 meters. Also places four and five were taken by Austrians: Sonja Schoitsch (55.0 and 55.5 m) came fourth and Katharina Keil (twice 55.0 m) fifth. With Lucienne Höppner (also 55.0 twice) a German completed the top six.
On Sunday the podium was taken by exactly the same jumpers. This day Ema jumped 61.0 and 61.5 meters while Barbara jumped twice 59.0 meters. Hölzl made a pair of jumps of 58.5 and 59.0 meters. Fourth in this second competition came Slovenia’s Anja Javorsek with jumps of 56.5 and 55.5 meters. Höppner came fifth (57.5 and 55.5 m) and Keil sixth (56.0 and 54.5 m).
