The World Cup continues this weekend in Hinterzarten, Germany. 70 jumpers have gathered here for the next two competitions. Some teams, such as the Americans, used the last couple of days to do some trainings on the large hill in Titisee-Neustadt, that’s only 10 kilometers away from Hinterzarten. There was some rain on Thursday, nevertheless the hill here in Hinterzarten is excellently prepared. As the weather forecast is very promising, we can look forward to two really nice World Cups here.

Today an official training and the qualification for the first competition tomorrow was held. Winner of the qualification came Norway’s Helena Olsson Smeby by jumping 99.5 meters. The second and the third place were taken by Atsuko Tanaka from Canada (99.0 m) and Irina Avvakumova from Russia (99.5). Best of the prequalified jumpers, that jumped with a shortened inrun, was Austria’s Daniela Iraschko-Stolz with a jump of 98.5 meters. World Cup leader Sara Takanashi from Japan passed on the qualification after jumping 101.0 and 105.5 in the training rounds. Also the prequalified Germans Carina Vogt and Gianina Ernst did not start.

Grave fall of Jacqueline Seifriedsberger in training

It was a moment of shock for all people at the hill, when Jacqueline Seifriedsberger from Austria suffered a severe fall in the second official training round. Right after landing her second training jump of 102.5 meters, she lost control over her right ski and so fell. She slid down the hill on her body and then lay immobilized in the outrun. Before she received first aid a cry of pain was clearly audible, still on top of the hill. Seifriedsberger was taken to hospital for some examinations, but it was obvious that she suffered some scratches in the face and injured her right knee. An exact diagnosis is still due.
