The Italian ski jumper Simona Senoner died on Friday at the age of 17.
The young and aspiring ski jumper Simona Senoner from Italy, is not with us anymore. She died on Friday in Germany, where she stayed with the Italian National Team. Her death is a big loss – not only for the Italian team. Ski jumpers from all nations are in mourning for her, many of them have lost a good friend and not just an opponent.
Already on Thursday she was found collapsed in a hotel room in Furtwangen, where the Italian team stays during the Continental Cup competitions in Schonach. She was immediately brought to the Universtiy Hospital in Freiburg and died there on Friday. The cause of the death is still unclear, examinations are planned for Saturday.
Simona from St. Christina, Val Gardena, got only 17 years old. She was a pupil at the sports section of the commercial high school in St. Ulrich. Her biggest sporting achievements were two Bronze Medals at Italian Junior Championships, a 10th rank at the Junior World Champoinships 2008 and a 15th rank in the Continental Cup.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her parents, Brigitte and Osvald and her brother Christian.
